Lifeguard Certification Registration Form

This course is for individuals that have never taken an American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or no longer have a current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification. Please be aware that you must be at least 15 years old by the last day of the course that you choose to attend. The Lifeguard course will certify you in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and Blood-borne pathogen.

This course is for individuals who’s certification in Lifeguarding is about to expire soon. This course will recertify the existing Lifeguard in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer, First Aid and Blood-borne pathogen.

LIFEGUARD TRAINING CLASSES

Please Review All Information before Continuing to the Registration Website. The information below is general, the specifics on how the class will be conducted is on the registration website and reading the “DETAILS” section.

  • Participants must be 15 years old by the last day of class to register.   Be sure and choose a class that meets the age requirement.
  • Bring proof of age to the first day of class. Documents accepted include: Driver’s License/Driver’s Permit (with birth date) or State ID, Passport, Birth Certificate, School Transcript (with birth date).
  • Class confirmation is secured by paying by credit card at the time of registration. Please talk to your parents before you start the registration process.
  • Students are required to attend every class date listed for the session registered.
  • Students must arrive 10 minutes early before each scheduled class.
  • Non-GHPM employees may register but will pay an additional fee.

    American Red Cross Prerequisites

    These are generally performed during the first few hours of class.

    Swimming

    Successfully complete the two prerequisite swimming skills evaluations:

    Prerequisite 1: Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest:

    • Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed.)
    • Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs.
    • Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.

    Prerequisite 2: Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds:

    • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. (The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.)
    • Surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 – 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
    • Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out at or near the surface.
    • Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

    LUNCHES AND BREAKS:

    • PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT ALL STUDENTS MUST BRING LUNCH/SNACKS AND DRINKS EACH DAY. STUDENTS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO LEAVE THE CLASS TO PURCHASE LUNCH.
    • Breaks: There will be small 5 to 10 minute breaks throughout the class.

    ITEMS PROVIDED BY GHPM:

    • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Book
    • CPR Resuscitation Mask
    • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training with First Aid CPR/AED and Bloodborne Pathogen (upon successful completion of class) certificate.  A  email with a link for your certificate with come from the American Red Cross about three weeks from the completion of the class.

    ITEMS NEEDED FOR CLASSES:

    • Swimsuit, several towels, goggles and swim cap if needed, extra change of clothing-including sweatshirt/pants (the rooms can be cool), pen or pencil, and notebook for notes, food and drinks for the day.

    CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY: Cancellations with a refund request, made in writing (email) at least one (1) week before the first day of class will receive a refund less 25% administrative fee. All cancellations and refund requests must be made in writing to hrd@greaterhoustonpool.com.

    Participants who are not able to pass the prerequisites of a class and then request a refund will be refunded only 75% of the original amount paid; an administrative fee of 25% will be deducted from the refund. These students can practice and return to another class at no charge.

    Credit card payments will be credited back to the same card. Credit card refunds will take approximately two (2) weeks to process. Cash, money order and check payments will be refunded by check, and will take approximately four (4) weeks to process.  No cash refunds will be issued.

    Refunds will not be given if the class starts and you do not show up.

    There will be no refund for any other circumstance. This includes not passing the final written test, skill scenarios or being asked to leave the class due to distracting behavior.

    TRANSFER TO ANOTHER CLASS: To transfer (72 hours prior to the original scheduled class) to another class date the request must be in writing, email hrd@greaterhoustonpool.com.  Transfer requests may not always be granted depending on the size of the classes. Classes fill on a first come first serve basis.
